Five Oaks Stingrays

Our new diving platforms!

Five Oaks has a competitive swim team called the Stingrays, who practices and competes from late May to early July – Contact our office for more information regarding the Five Oaks Stingrays.

Swimming with the Five Oaks swim team (go Stingrays!) is a great way to spend part of the summer at the pool making new friends, catching up with old friends, and learning to swim.

All children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews of members are welcome on the team. We take swimmers as young as 4 if they are able to “swim” from one end of the pool to the other, and we take swimmers up to age 18 (by June 1). Call or email for specifics about age requirements. Our season begins around mid-May when the pool opens and runs through championships about mid-July.

Our coaches, almost all of them current or former swim team members, provide a fun and encouraging atmosphere in which the swimmers learn and develop stroke technique and good sportsmanship. In addition to swim practices, the team participates in fun, social events like running the Five Oaks Grill, Durham Bulls games, and movie nights.

MISC INFO:
You may have noticed already that we are swimming against the same teams, which means we are still a Division III team.  There was a vote during the October DSSL meeting, and the league voted to keep the divisions as they were in 2019.  Many thanks to Lina for attending the meeting and supporting our cause.
We will be keeping the same suits for this year, in order to keep costs down.  If anyone has any suits that their kids have outgrown and would like to pass on, please bring them to registration so we can get them to kids who can use them.
The yearly cost per swimmer has not been determined yet.  There might be slight increase, due to the fact that DSSL needs to increase the club dues to help pay for Champs, but, we don’t have an official answer on that yet.  Regardless, it will not be a dramatic increase.
Leslie Johnson has done a FANTASTIC job putting all of this info onto our Facebook page.  If you haven’t yet found us on Facebook, look us up as it will be one of the places we will be posting updates as the season goes on.
We will be using the remind app system to notify you of any practice cancellations, etc, more info to come on that.
We will send out the registration forms closer to the registration date, once we get them revised.  We will also have them on site that day.
There will be some officials training offered this spring before the start of the season.  There will be 2 in-person and 2 webinar training sessions.  All officials will need to attend one of these sessions.  This includes stroke and turn, starter and meet director.  Once we get the dates for these trainings, we will let you know.
If you know of anyone who would like to join our team, please have them send an email to us at this address (FOSTParentreps@gmail.com) and we can add them to the distribution list and get them the information they need.
We are looking forward to another great season at Five Oaks and to seeing all of you in a few months for registration!  In the mean time, if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns, please send them to us.  Thanks!
